QNX Delivers Out-of-the-Box Experience for Embedded x86 Customers

Thanks to the new QNX® Neutrino® x86 runtime kit, value-added resellers, independent software vendors, and system integrators can, for the first time, deploy their software on a hard realtime operating system (RTOS) without encountering complex installation issues or time-consuming licensing agreements.

Designed especially for smaller-scale product deployments, the new QNX Neutrino x86 runtime kit works out of the box with a wide array of x86 hardware platforms. It is particularly well-suited for industrial automation and any other control-oriented applications based on PC-compatible ruggedized computers or single-board computers, including medical, point-of-sale, and mil/aero systems.

Chips and Tools, Oct 13, Germany

QNX Software Systems will be exhibiting and speaking at the Chips & Tools conference. This is the european event focusing on microcontrollers and microprocessors, development tools and operating systems. It is a forum for manufacturers and distributors to meet and communicate with the users of chips, tools and services.

Peter Spaeth, Regional Sales Manager at QNX Software Systems, will be giving a talk on "Design and Analysis of Safe Embedded Systems" (Entwurf und Analyse sicherer embedded Systeme).

QNX Software Systems will be exhibiting and speaking at the Chips & Tools conference. This is the European event focusing on microcontrollers and microprocessors, development tools and operating systems. It is a forum for manufacturers and distributors to meet and communicate with the users of chips, tools and services.

Garry Bleasdale, Field Applications Engineer at QNX Software Systems will be giving a talk on "Exactly When Do you Need Realtime?" This session explores where and why real time is required, various definitions of real time, and the effect of the operating system on a real-time design. We will also discuss design methods and programming-language features appropriate for real time; identify operating-system requirements for real time (e.g. pre-emptible kernel, priority inheritance, nested interrupts); and explore the tradeoffs between using a GPOS or an RTOS. Practical issues, such as setting appropriate task priorities and avoiding high-frequency interrupts, will also be covered.
