Frost & Sullivan Names QNX an Innovation Powerhouse

Noted global analysis and consulting firm Frost & Sullivan has recognized QNX as the recipient of the 2006 Award for Automotive Innovation & Advancement.

The award is bestowed each year upon a company that has proven to be a leader in the industry and that, through its pioneering technology, sound business strategy, and research efforts, has been successful in moving the state of the industry forward. Its excellence in the field has extended beyond its technical advancements and encompasses a comprehensive view of market participants resulting in an ongoing improvement in the industry over time.

Frost & Sullivan research analyst Robert Cavin noted that in addition to enabling audio systems, infotainment, navigation, and telematics systems, QNX had demonstrated particular leadership in helping develop all-encompassing control systems called human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to simplify the driving experience. “Frost & Sullivan believes that QNX has developed an industry-leading automotive software product,” notes Cavin. “QNX has continued to increase its share in the growing automotive software market, and Frost & Sullivan believes QNX is well-positioned to expand its market presence and cement its leadership in automotive software."

QNX will be honored at an industry gala dinner in February.

All Media Group and QNX Demonstrate Latest Digital Media Capabilities

Whether it’s song titles, CD artwork, or musical repertoires, today’s consumers are looking for usability, flexibility, and transportability of their digital media experience. QNX Software Systems and All Media Guide (AMG) are helping to link the world of digital entertainment to the automobile, and demonstrated their market-leading technologies during the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

QNX, the leading provider of operating system software for today’s in-car computing devices, and AMG, a provider of entertainment descriptive content and content-management technology, jointly demonstrated their solutions for such automotive infotainment applications as digital and hard-drive radios.

Using the QNX® Neutrino® high-performance realtime operating system, AMG’s LASSO embedded software product can search the table of contents files contained in a CD or digital music file. Using the QNX Photon® microGUI® windowing system, AMG’s LASSO can then display data ranging from artist, song title, and musical genre to lists of similar albums and web links for cover art. The demonstration, which was shown to select customers during CES, is built upon the Freescale MPC 5200 processor.

McObject Integrates eXTremeDB with I-Logix's Rhapsody

IMcObject, developer of the eXtremeDB in-memory embedded database for the QNX Neutrino Real-time Operating System (RTOS), announced it has integrated eXtremeDB with I-Logix's Rhapsody, an award-winning Unified Modeling Language (UML(TM))-based Model-Driven Development (MDD) environment.

The coupling of eXtremeDB and Rhapsody on the fast, deterministic platform of QNX shortens time-to-market of high quality embedded applications that need embedded data management. With this combination, developers can visually model their application or system, use the eXtremeDB database Application Programming Interface (API), and generate code that interacts with the database from within Rhapsody.

Effective immediately, McObject will provide a free downloadable Rhapsody integration kit with a Getting Started guide and files that add eXtremeDB-specific configurations to Rhapsody projects. The kit works with all versions of eXtremeDB (including eXtremeDB High Availability edition) on the QNX Neutrino RTOS platform.
