Web Seminar: Optimizing Performance In Embedded Applications Using System Tracing Tools
Join QNX® Software Systems for a technical web seminar that examines how system
tracing tools can be used to gain critical insight into system behavior. OS
tools manager Thomas Fletcher will provide an overview of tracing and
instrumentation and how these techniques can be used to identify bottlenecks and
correct system errors. Software developer Colin Burgess will then present a
case study on using system tracing tools to optimize performance in an in-vehicle
system with tight timing requirements and limited CPU resources. Mr. Burgess will
look at areas such as startup sequence, component streamlining, misinterpreted
specifications, and resource contention.
Attend this session to learn:
- How to achieve maximum visibility into system behavior while ensuring minimal impact on system integrity
- Practical techniques for fine-tuning performance
- Ways to expose common development errors
- How resources were optimized using an in-vehicle case study example

QNX Continues Telematics Drive In Asia With New Deals And Strong Play In China
QNX Software Systems announced that four tier-one automotive suppliers have
selected the QNX Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS) for several next-
generation, in-car navigation systems now available in the Korean and Chinese
markets. With these commercial deployments, QNX is rapidly emerging as the OS
of choice for infotainment and navigation systems in the Asian market.
To better serve the rapidly evolving auto industry in Asia and particularly
China where production of automotive units grew nearly 40 percent in 2003, QNX
is also introducing new Chinese character code fonts to ensure easy customization
between geographic markets and languages.

QNX First RTOS Vendor To Offer Native Support For 3D Graphics
With release 6.3 of the QNX Neutrino RTOS, QNX becomes the first RTOS vendor to
offer native support for 3D graphics and multi-layer user interfaces. This
integrated support not only helps embedded developers get up and running quickly,
but, unlike other offerings, saves OEMs the costs and integration hassles of
purchasing third-party 3D software and technical support.
Optimized for in-car navigation systems, process control applications, medical
instruments, and other mission-critical embedded devices, QNX’s new 3D support
can work with or without a windowing system, giving developers flexibility and
control over their memory footprint. Moreover, it’s based on the Mesa 3D library,
an open-source implementation of the OpenGL standard that allows developers to
leverage a rich pool of 3D programming expertise and source code.
